So I have gone through the process and it downloaded the new software, told me it was back at factory, re-started a couple of times and then it was restoring and now it seems to be stuck on "restoring iPhone apps"...it's been doing this for probably 30 minutes or so...what can I do??

Do you have a lot of apps? My husband has about 180 applications and it took about 45 minutes for that screen to go away. Your phone appears usable (and is, for the most part) because in iOS5 you can use your phone while it is syncing. Don't disconnect, in other words.

If you have a lot of apps it will take an inordinately long time to add them all back. You just have to keep a watchful eye on the process but find something else to do while you wait so it won't drive you crazy. :)

Mine took more than 45 minutes for 224 apps.

I didn't really keep a close eye on it but mine took around 30 to 35 minutes with 120 apps
