Skynews in OZ just had a report on the iphone launch and then followed with a poll question-Wil you get an iphone?

It's currently 81% NO!!!

Just in case this influences any potential carriers or Apple can anyone help out and vote YES??

http://www.skynews.com.au

two reasons why people don't want one
1. it's not available in australia yet (people might mistake 'want' as 'can get')
2. people don't need it

i fall into 2. All i do is talk and text; i have 5 iPods (one of each gen :D) to do music, i have a MacBook for internet, and i have an Ericsson V600i for talk and text. Each of which do their task as efficiently, if not more efficiently, than the iPhone. I don't have $500 USD kicking around, and if i did, i wouldn't be spending it on a phone.

Just voted.

Its a meaningless poll, Apple won't be influenced, don't worry.

Aussies are notoriously cynical and wil need proof it works-from what I have read it seems to be exceeding expectations. But when it comes here it will go balistic, and we will have the 3G version, hopefully on Vodafone.

Just a note that when I transferred from vodafone to three it took all day until our phones were activated. I am expecting the same thing when we switch back-first day I am getting one!!

Fair enough you don't want one, no problem .

i just selected yes and its 80% no now.....why does it matter though.....does it matter if it sells good....i don't care, as long as i get one!!! it would be better if most people didn't want one cause i wouldn't have to line up to get one when they come!!!

bloody americans why dont we get anything at the same time!! WE"RE FIGHTING THEIR WAR!!!! australia is a large country, and has a big population... its not like we are on a different planet to them, how ahrd could it possibly be to make the products avaliable to us aswell at the same time>?< im not just talking about the iphone. (cauz they have to make it 3G/that other one)...

hmph

um what else from apple don't we get at the same time?

as for the war, you know we have like, less than 1% of the number of troops they have in Afghanistan/Iraq, right?

Large geographically? Yes. Large population? No. we have an estimated population of 21 million.

the state of New York has a few million people less, in 1/50th the area.
California has 33 million (according to the 2000 us census) in an area 1/18th the area.

It is frustrating that it's not here yet, but there are several reasons why it's not available here, the war having nothing to do with it. It's also not that surprising that only 20% are interested there's been very little media coverage of the product here when compared to the hype in the US.

First off, the US is Apples largest market so its logical for them to target it first. The nature of the iPhone complicates the usual logistics of a product roll out. If Apple release a new Mac it's not that difficult for them to sell it here because its not dependent on collaboration with a telecommunications network.

That brings us to the next obstacle - the network. Telstra have pretty much made it clear that they have no desire or intention to take on the iPhone, yet they have the only EDGE network in the country. The other crappy thing here is that free WiFi is hard to come by so that wouldn't even compensate. Until a 3G alternative is available its unlikely we'll be seeing the iPhone here. Hopefully once it is available Vodafone or 3 will take it on.

In some ways its actually a good thing we're not getting it straight away. By the time it does arrive it probably will have been upgraded and improved in numerous ways.

Lastly, Australia really is a relatively small market when compared to other countries. Its unfortunate, but its true.

as much as i hate to admitt it... your right... on every point :p australia is so far behind, i hate it...the only good thing i can see comming out of the wait is the possibility of an upgraded version.. other than that...pfft.
our internet connections even suck cmon only adsl2+..

our country is basically run by telstra, they control all the fone lines except the ones that optus and other larger networks ahve, and they mark up rent prices so smaller internet companies have to have high prices. and whats more its gonna cost that much to increase out lines and cost so much that by the time its all done bluetooth will be faster than it.

neways thats my winge for the day!!:D
