Help wanted ! airdrop is making me go grey

I know that there are lots of thread about airdrop not working but this is really starting to p@ss me off. 1st time Ive had any sort of trouble with macs.

Ive read all the suggestions, gone to the apple forums and visited the support discussions etc etc - spent 2 hours trying to get it to work.

Ive got a iphone 5s and MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012) - Can airdrop photos from computer to phone but not the other way around.

The only thing that I can think of at this stage is (can anyone confirm or deny this) is that airdrop doesnt send photos because they are backed up to icloud/photo stream.

Any help would be great !

I don't know if this will help. My config: iPhone 6 Plus (iOS 8.0.2) and iMac 27" i7 (10.10)... AirDrop works both ways from iCloud or local iPhone albums. When I was using Yo-te beta, there was one occasion I had to restart my phone, then it worked fine after that.

I had this problem. Logged out of iCloud on the iPhone, then logged back in again. Did the same on the MBP, just to be sure (don't know if this was actually necessary).

Now all is good.

If, when you see your phone in Finder's AirDrop, you see a silhouette of a person instead of your contact photo, that's a big pointer that you need to get out of iCloud and back in again.

On the computer I can see my profile and photo and I logged in and out of each device, reset my wifi etc etc plus just tried handoff and its not working as well.....

Im off to bed.......spent half the night trying to get this right

I had the same issue where I could send photos from my MacBook to my 5s but not the other way around. Re-logging into iCloud on both devices and rebooting didn't help. What fixed it for me was actually pairing the devices through Bluetooth. Once there was a connection it was working fine.

It seems there's different solutions for different people. My devices were already paired, but didn't work until iCloud log off / log on.

Maybe iOS 8.1 upgrade, released a few minutes ago, might help others.

I'm in the same boat, only I can airdrop between my iPads, but not from my iPad to Macbook Pro. Both are brand new, tried resetting, etc. Frustrating.

Airdrop is very unreliable for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to work best when both devices are not connected to WiFi networks.

Did you try restarting both the computer and phone? I had the issue last night, and that fixed it.

And just now while typing this, it showed my phone on the computer, but not on the phone. What happened was this. I selected the phone, tapped the Share button that brought up an overlay, THEN clicked on the AirDrop tab on the computer, while the Share overlay was still on the phone. This made my phone show up on the computer, but my computer not showing up on the phone. What you need to do is, make sure you click on the AirDrop on the computer first and have it see your phone, THEN tap the photo to bring up the Share overlay. Otherwise the Share overlay's Airdrop icon won't update.

Is your Macbook wired or wireless. Airdrop is real finicky with the network type you're using to transfer files. Use both Wifi for Macbook and iPhone if you are using Ethernet.

Just got up and will try them out as soon as possible - using wifi on both iphone 5s and Macbook pro.....

I found a post over on the verge forums - see my thread about it as it completely fixed both Airdrop and continuity !
