Okay so I just got a Mac Air 11 and am trying to hook up my iPad 2 with my itunes library which is on an external hard drive. I also have another ipad 2 hooked up to my PC with the itunes library on the external drive. It works fine which is why I would like to do the same thing with the Mac Air and 2nd ipad using the same library.

I can see the itunes library on the external drive when it i hooked up to the Mac Air but can't seem to get the MacAir itunes to connect/recognize it or else I don't know how to get everything to be recognized while leaving the files on the external drive. I am using the same name on both ipads thinking that would take care of the problem. Guess I am missing a step or two to complete the process.

Because my itunes library is about 675 GBs, I don't want nor can I transfer the library to my 128GB MacAir.

How can I get this straighten out? Thanks.

You have to actually import the library into iTunes on the MBA. You don't have to transfer the files, but you do have to point the application to the files. You'll want to make sure you turn off the option to move files to the target location in Preferences or iTunes will move them from the external to the internal HDD.

Thanks, still am not sure what I was doing wrong but this time it worked. I did noticed that for some reason now I am showing several dupilcations so am deleting them. Also it has scrambled up all my music turning albums into single entries even though the songs are checked as being part of an album or compilation. Aargh...............
