I was thinking of buying a 2nd gen jailbroken iphone from a friend...
I have at&t. I don't want to pay the $20 data charge every month.
Will at&t recognize my iphone and start charging me the monthly rate if it's jailbroken!?!?!?!?!?!

at&t may or may not recognize the iPhone. If they do, they may contact you regarding it. They do require the $20 data plan for the 2G iPhones, but some people have had luck getting around it. You should look to see if your employer has an at&t FAN account, that can reduce the cost of your monthly plan.

TEG

AT&T will let you remove the iphone data from 2G iphones, its not mandatory any more like the 3G and 3GS models.

So your saying i could remove all the data from the 2g iphone so at&t doesn't recognize it?
If so how? link or explanation would be cool

thanks so much

No, I meant that AT&T doesnt care any more wether you have a data plan on your 2G iphone or not.
They will not bug you like they do at times with 3G and 3GS iphones.
All you gotta do is go to this site with your iphone
unlockit.co.nz and install the fake apn file.
The FakeAPN sets the APN to a random value. As (most) phone carriers need a valid APN set on your phone for it to access data, setting it to a random value should make it fail in connecting (so your data is disabled on the phone)
It will still work on wifi only.

okay i understand how to do it thanks
last thing... for 3g iphone users there's no way around it?
