Help with AirDrop

I have a iPhone 5S and Mac. i was trying to see if i can transfer files to and fro and it does not seem like my phone sees my mac.

I've googled some tried some remedies like deleting some preference files and restarting.. I was wondering if I am missing something else.. does file sharing need to be set a certain way or whats going on?

Do you have Bluetooth turned on in both devices?

I use deskconnect. It's free and works well. If your phone can't SEE your Mac, you probably need to go to the Bluetooth settings on the Mac and set it to be discoverable.

Will work when the 2 devices (iPhone + Mac) are connected to the same local network.
