O.K. so this month's Maclife had a pretty clear step by step directions for the Boxee/XMBC hack to apple tv, so much so that a non hacking type like myself felt compelled to try it.

I went through all the steps with the patchstick, rebooted, and sure enough Boxee/XMBC option is now there in the menu along with my movies, tv shows, music, etc. So that's good.

But when I go to either boxee (which I have on my computer) or XMBC (which I don't) I get an error saying it can't open it from path (and then it lists the path).

What is the next step to getting this to work? Can I just use the boxee function without XMBC? Does Boxee have to be open on my computer? I searched around in settings or some of the software fiels but couldn't find anything.

Any help would be appreciated since I know there are a lot of boxee users on here.

Yes, that is probably the problem. I'm not sure why, but all of the free patchsticks that I've seen so far are WAY out of date. It basically requires you to re-download everything so that you can update them to the latest versions. Maybe the paid versions are kept up more. I don't know.
