Help with downloads folder

So I accidentally removed my downloads folder from my dock by dragging it onto the desktop, it went 'poof' and disappeared. Now that I finally got it back, nothing is showing up in the folder when I download stuff. If anyone can help me get my downloads folder back, I would really appreciate it.

check to see if the downloads folder still exists in your home folder… it should as dragging the folder off your dock does not actually delete the folder. Then check your preferences in Safari under the General tab and make sure it's pointing to the downloads folder in your home folder. You can set it there to download into any folder.

Thanks, I use Firefox, and it is set to send downloads to the downloads folder, but still no downloads.
