Help with dropped SSD

Hi guys, I need help about something! A friend of mine had a crucial SSD in his laptop, and he dropped it and he broke the Screen and SSD. Now he can connect the ssd using an enclosure to his computer and recover his data but he can't get windows to install on it! What could be the issue, I have searched a lot but to no vail!

Any help or even info would be appreciated!

Not all external enclosures can be used to install Windows, or even boot Windows externally on a Mac. What enclosure and what interface does it use?

If you are trying to recover data from the drive, it does seems strange that you are also trying to install Windows on it???

No no, what happened is that he had the ssd inside the laptop and it had his OS and his files! When he dropped it, he sent the laptop back to HP to get the Screen fixed. He put his old HDD inside and he used an enclosure to get his files back. But when he put the drive back inside the laptop to install windows on it, he couldn't! it said the drive is bad and windows is unable to install!

Ah OK ... this was a Windows laptop that was dropped.
I assumed you were talking about a Mac laptop ... sorry.

Was the same laptop returned from HP that was sent in for repair? Perhaps the drop damaged the SATA drive connector on either the SSD or laptop, but works with the hard disk? One would think the SSD could withstand the drop, but it is possible that something internally was damaged. If the SSD is remounted in the external enclosure, does it function normally on either that HP (with bootable hard disk reinstalled) or another computer?

He bought it from HP, I think it's the probook or sth like that, the one that HP copied apple! hehe

Anyways it came with a normal HDD and he bought a crucial SSD and swapped it out and he start using the laptop! 2 Weeks ago he dropped it and the screen and ssd broke! HP repaired the screen but it would not boot with the ssd, so he put the old HDD back and using an enclosure he got his files back from the SSD but he can't seem to install windows on it, when he puts it back into the sata drive of the laptop! What I don't get is why he can put it in an enclosure and connect to USB and get his files but he can't install windows!

If it is a USB 2 enclosure, I don't think Windows will allow installation due to the slow speed. Windows will install to a USB 3.0 enclosure I believe. No technical reason for this other than a design decision by Microsoft engineers.
