Hey all I need some help finding how to rip some of my DvDs to my Intel Mac. I have tried most ripping programs for mac and installed WINE and tried some windows ripping programs. What I am trying to do is rip the main feature into one single VOB file or Mp4 or anything that I can get onto my ipod but every time I try to rip it, it goes all color pixelated or I only get a small segment of the movie sometimes it wont even play. I have tried using handbrake and mac the ripper. Why wont it work??

Edit: I have checked I'm pretty sure all of the threads about this but can't seem to find a solution.

MacTheRipper, FairMount and RipIt to rip, but they may have problems with advanced copy-protection systems.

Handbrake should be fine transcoding the main title (spread over several .vob files) to one .mp4 file.

What version of MacTheRipper and Handbrake are you using, and what DVD titles are giving you problems?

And do a search for this topic, as it has been discussed to death.
MRoogle is quite a good tool to search this forums.

my bet is that you are not using handbrake correctly. in the upper right corner of the handbrake window, click toggle presets, then click apple then universal, do not change any other setting in handbrake, and make sure VLC is installed.

Mac the ripper 2.6.6
Handbrake 0.9.3
Walk the line is the dvd

related question

Using MTR 3 r14 and tried to rip main feature only. Ripped disk but created 5 VOB files. How do I get a single vob file?. Files play individually no problem but don't run on There is probably a simple solution but I'm new to this :(

Apologies if their is a FAQ somewhere and I have'nt found it

Have you used or at least tried Handbrake?
I have found it to be the simplest and easiest solution for what you want in most cases

That is normal, as the DVD contains several .vob files and others too.
There is a maximum file size with video DVDs, so you will never get a ripped DVD with only one file, or the video in one file.

As MacDawg already wrote, give Handbrake a go to further transcode the video to ONE smaller file, be it .mp4, .mkv or .avi.

Also search these forums via MRoogle, as the question of how to properly rip a video DVD is asked and answered a lot. So no need for redundancy.
