Hi all new to the forum. I'm looking forward to upgrade my 2018 i7 16gb ram Macbook pro but am wondering which one shoud I get. Try to decide between the base M4 chip with upgraded 32 gb ram or the M4 pro chip model with 24 gb ram. Have been looking through reviews on youtube but doesn't really help my case. Most youtubers' reviews are very polerized either opt for the Pro chip model for heavy work load or the base chip model for 'average users' like browser based application and MS suite. I fell in the middle. I work mainly in large packaging, large format prints, catalogues, photo editings in PS, Illustrator and Indesign. Most files I deal with are around 1 gb or less, occasionally up to 2 or 3 gb. I barely do any video editing don't want to spend extra on an overkill machine for my purpose. Thanks for any input.

You can get the M4 Pro 24/512GB config for a few 100 off on Amazon right now. Strongly recommend that option. 24GB RAM should be fine for most users. Obviously if you do a lot of RAM intensive tasks then only you will know if 24 is enough.

Base M4 with 32GB memory sounds ideal since you work on large files. M4 Pro sounds like overkill since the only benefit is when you work with video files etc. Be careful on the storage. It is very, very expensive. I tend to regard 1 TB as minimum and any extra should be an external drive. Much much cheaper and more cost effective. This configuration will be much faster than your i7 based machine.
