On #2 Google "Handbrake".
It has iPhone presets.

I don't think the OP wants to rip their DVDs. I think they want to convert the movies they already have on their computer to iPhone format.

Handbrake just converts the file to whatever preset you want.
In this case for the iPhone.
It doesn't rip.

did you right click on the file and select "Open With" and then tell it to open with either Quicktime or iTunes?

yeh i tryed that got the same error message - am on XP - will it work on XP
Yes, it's the same for XP but I am on Vista but let's start over from the beginning since I don't have too much info on where your original file is.
First you have to rip the movie (if you haven't already) and get rid of the enycryption. I use DVD Decrypter. I then save the file to my Desktop. Then I use Handbrake with the Iphone preset and it re-encodes the file for the iPhone. The file is still sitting on my desktop at this time. Then I right click the file and select "Open With" and I select iTunes. Then I add the file to my iTunes Library and then move it to my iPhone. Is this what you did?

thanks guys for your help i have now managed to sort the movie n ringtone problem out;
i use audiko for the mp3 ringtones n it works well
also use movavi video converter for my movies - its takes time but does work only for 30days free trial.:)

Handbrake doesn't rip DVDs? That's funny, considering that's wrong.
I use Handbrake to rip DVDs all of the time.
