Right side of wrong
i'm new to idvd, and i want to make a dvd that i can watch in a regular dvd player. how do i import the video files into idvd? do i have to seperate the video and audio?

thanks in advance

what kind of files?

what kind of files? idvd can't accept everything... pretty much limited to dv and imovie projects. if it's something like existing mpeg or divx, you need something like toast 7 which has a batch encoder to dvd format.

Need a lot more info. What's the source of the video files? What format are they in? How long are they (iDVD, or rather, DVD-R cand only handle certain time lengths)?

it's an .avi file. i tried converting it using mpeg streamclip, but it came out with no sound. also, this is a movie that's over 2 hours long, and mpeg streamclip only sees about 11.5 minutes of it. i think the same with idvd. any ideas? it's supposed to be an HD movie clip. it's 4.37 gb in size

i think you need to open it in imovie first to remove the sound and stuff then just click send to idvd
A funny side note, When i burn my movies in idvd it plays in all the dvd players in my house, yet when i play it on my ibook the dvd player says "Disk Not Supported", kinds wierd.

why would i want to remove the sound? and how do i do it?

AVI files can be multiple things...

An AVI can be completely uncompressed video - it would be very large... 2 GB for every 10 minutes.

or

An AVI can be a container for another video type - usually a DivX file.

Either one of these can be dropped into Toast 7 and burned to DVD no problem.

Importing into iMovie is an unnecessary step, and not even possible if it's a DivX file... iMovie is very particular about the files it can support and DivX is definitely not one of them.

Note... if it's a DivX file with Dolby audio... you're out of luck... there's no way to get that to play on the Mac right now due to a change in QuickTime 7... the video will play just fine, but the audio won't.

thanks for the reply. it's supposed to be an HD file. i'm not sure about the rest. i don't think it's divx, since it's 2 hours long and it's 4.37 gb in size
