Help with iMovie/iDVD

Hey everyone. Hope you can help...

I created an entire movie on iMovie and now I want to burn it onto a DV-R. Only problem is I don't have a DVD burner on my Mac. I guess the simple solution would be to go out and buy one, but I never burn DVDs (in fact, this is the first time I will have ever burned a DVD), so it almost seems like a waste.

I was wondering if there was a way to move the iMovie or iDVD project from my computer to a friend's (she has a DVD burner).

Basically, my question is: Can I burn the contents of an iMovie file onto a CD-R disc and then transfer those files to another computer that has a burner? Will my iMovie even work on another computer if I do this?

Chances are that your movie project is too large to be stored on a CD.

There is an option for you though. Use iDVD to 'Save as Disk Image' (basically the file that would end up on the DVD) to your desktop. That should give you a file of anything up to 4 or so GB in size.

If by chance, it's around 600MB, then yes, you could burn a data CD of it and take it to your friend's house.

If it's larger than that, then you'll need to find someway of getting that file to her. If you have access to an FTP server that accepts large files, you could upload it to her and she could download it accordingly. If you have an iPod, you could use disk mode to put it on there and then plug it into her computer and download it. Or if you have a 'book, then you can just take it over there and network them together.

By the way, is anyone savvy to a program similar to WinRAR that allows you to create segmented archives, to get around this exact sort of situation?
