Help with installing Mojave on a MacPro 5.1

Help please!
I have already successfully installed Mojave on my MacPro 5.1. Am booting from a SSD (Samsung 860 Evo) which is installed in a SATA sled.
GPU is a R9 280X (metal compatable)
System was working ok
Then, to boost performance, I ordered a NVWe M.2 SSD (Samsung 970 Pro) which I have installed in PCIe (slot2)
So now I am wanting to load 10.14 to the M.2 blade and use that as boot volume
I start machine in recovery mode. I select 'reinstall OS'...but it wants to install 'High Sierra'?
When I go to 'disk utilities' from recovery mode it shows me 'OS X Base System' (which is shown as a HFS+ disk)
Why can't I select the M.2 blade?

Are you on the latest Firmware?
Nvme blades are only supported as boot volume on fw 140+

@JoeStrummer have you gone into disk utility and clicked "view" and then changed it to by device? You should then be able to see you M.2 and can erase it (be sure to use GUID partition map) and then be able to install to it.

Not really. People use dosdude install, target disk mode, install with other supported Macs or even if he did everything by the book, he perhaps still has 138.0.0.0.0 or 139.0.0.0.0.

First thing is always to check the BootROM version - 140.0.0.0.0 is needed for NVMe boot support with a MP5,1.

Another thing, download the corrent 10.14.4 Mac App Store installer, released Monday, and install from there, there is a new BootROM upgrade to be done, 141.0.0.0.0

Yes I am on 140.0.0.0 boot firmware.

This is how I was previously able to update to Mojave....I installed the SSD and initialised it as an APFS volume using disk utility. I then booted into recovery mode and installed OS to SSD. Easy

But now the same procedure doesn't seem to work?.....I installed the NVMe M.2 blade and then initialised it as an APFS volume. No problems so far. But when I boot into recovery mode and select 'Reinstall OS' it wants to install High Sierra?

I think somehow the system has got confused. I am going to restore from Time Machine tonight after work and then try again?

Make a createinstallmedia USB key for 10.14.4, remove all other disks then install from it.

format it to HFS+ first before installing to it.
[doublepost=1554155907][/doublepost]and you may have to delete the container after you format to hfs+ I had a lot of issues trying to install mojave to ssd formatted to apfs. The ssd is converted to apfs during the installation.
