Help with iphone 3gs!

ok heres the thing, my aunt just gave me and iphone 3gs jailbreaked with os 3.0.1, i went into the settings section and chose reset and erase content so that it would get rid of all her stuff and settings, when it restarted the apple logo just froze with a white loading circle and it restarts over and over and does the same thing, i tried jailbreaking again using redsnow 0.8 with 3.0 but after the jailbreak it did the same thing tried dfu restore using itunes to restore it to the original 3.0 but that failed too, i tried also normal recovery but no success, apparently my only choice is to do an 3.1 upgrade to the iphone while in dfu since 3.0 is not eligible for my iphone, acording to itunes, but i dont wanna do this since it will upgrade the baseband, any suggestions, tips? im running on a macbook with mac osx 10.5.8.thanx

Do you care about an unlock? If not, then upgrade to 3.1. But if you do, then you should try restoring with a different computer. Or using Pwnage Tool and make a custom IPSW instead of using Redsn0w.

i tried using another computer, and i do care about the unlock, also does pwnage tool works for the 3gs?
