Hey guys, yesterday I got a new iPhone as a present, worked great, I put my sim card (portuguese TMN), I called some people and it worked fine, plus I installed some programs, and again it worked good. Then I learned about jailbreaking the iPhone, I used quickpwn, did everything in the instructions until it told me to restore from iTunes, and I did. Now when I turn on my iPhone it gives me the message: No SIM card installed, insert a valid SIM with no PIN lock to activate iPhone.

I put on my sim that has no pin and it gives me the same message, i take off the sim and I'm stuck in that message, I can't even turn the iPhone on without a SIM now
Also, the screen has an image of the cable connecting to iTunes, but every time I connect it to iTunes I get this:

iTunes cannot activate your iPhone because the SIM card is not inserted or a SIM pin is required, Disconnect your i.........

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Restore is the first thing to do. If iTunes doesn't detect your iPhone then try a hard reset by following the set of instructions at the bottom of this post. If that does not work then try putting your iPhone in DFU mode by following the second set of instructions. Do not use DFU mode if you are on a Mac that is running 10.5.6 because it does not recognize iPhones/iPod Touches in DFU mode. If that does not work then try the third list of instructions at the bottom of this post. These instructions are in the order that you should try them. Don't start with the third set of instructions! The last set of instructions has always worked for me when I got that far.

1st List: Hard Reset
1. Hold the home and sleep/wake button until the screen turns off.
2. Let your iPhone reboot. If it doesn't start to reboot after 20 seconds then hold the sleep/wake button for about 5 seconds or until the Apple logo appears.

2nd List: DFU Mode
1. Hold the home and power button for exactly 10 seconds.
2. After 10 seconds, release the power button and continue to hold the home button for 10 seconds.
3. Release the home button after 10 seconds.
4. Attempt to power up your iPhone. It should power up but if it doesn't then connect to iTunes. A message should pop up saying and iPhone has been detected in recovery mode. You must restore it...
4. Click restore and follow any on screen instructions.

3rd List: Deactivate and hard restore
1. Open iTunes on your computer (Mac or PC).
2. Power off your iPhone by following the 1st step of the 1st list of instructions.
3. Hold the home button and connect the iPhone to your computer with iTunes open and holding the hoe button.
4. Soon, a screen should pop up saying connect to iTunes with the iTunes logo and a USB cord.

Hope this helps!
David

Thanks a lot for typing that long and descriptive post, but that's not exactly helping since it's not my problem. What happened is that I now can't use my sim card after restoring from iTunes. It used to work fine, I'm now stuck at that window with the picture of the cable connecting to itunes and the emergency button.

After researching I found out I need to unblocked, I downloaded a program called Ziphone and used this as a tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkLjG2D0TV0&feature=related
But it doesn't work, is it because my iPhone is 2.2?

Any help please???

You welcome and I'm sorry that my advice couldn't help you. You may need a new SIM card from AT&T. I don't think that they need your phone in the store for you to buy a new one so you don't have to restore to get jailbreak off. If you have an AT&T store by your house then take it there. If not you can try calling them if you don't mind being on hold for like 2 hours!:p

I don't think there's an AT&T store here in Portugal, but thanks anyways.

Well in that case, I assume you bought the iPhone over the internet. I still recommend calling AT&T or Apple if you can use someone else's phone since yours is broken. They can probably send you a replacement or provide you with better assistance than someone who doesn't work for them can provide here.

Again, thanks for the advise, I got the iPhone as a present from my uncle when he was visiting the middle east (Saudi Arabia I think), when it came it seems like it was unlocked. Mine isn't broken, I was just really stupid and restored it, apparently that makes my Portuguese sim card unusable, but I saw some people unlock the phone in the net, but with versions below 2.2, so my question is; can I use a program like Ziphone to unlock my iPhone??

Yes. I am not to familiar with ZiPhone, but you can unlock it. You should also take a look at yell0wsn0w by the iPhone Dev Team. I believe yell0wsn0w is on Cydia. Then all you need is a T-Mobile SIM card which should be that hard to find.

David

Is there no way to get yell0wsn0w from the net?
Also is it possible to jailbreak an iPhone 3g 2.2?

do an at&t 3G work in a iphone??

Dear Lord, don't use ZiPhone!

It doesn't work for 2.0+, and it doesn't work well for *anything*.

Is there no way to get yell0wsn0w from the net?
Also is it possible to jailbreak an iPhone 3g 2.2?

Both of these questions can be answered with a quick Google search or two.

Thank you guys, I got it to work with a new version of quickpwn.

and ppc750fx, believe me I google searched a lot, but i found different answers...
