help with iSight in Boot camp

For those that have Boot camp working on their MBAs, espeically running Windows XP, is your iSight working in Windows?

I am not using Boot camp, but I am using VMware Fusion 1.1.1 to run Win XP. However, my XP couldn't find a driver that suit the built-in iSight camera. After playing with the MBA restore DVD, I extracted a boot camp driver which is supposed to be for the iSight. But it still wasn't recognized by XP as a proper driver.

Hence, I am starting to wonder whether there exist a good Windows XP driver for the MBA iSight camera. I know for sure that the iSight from MBA is different from the regular MB, because I had such MB and the iSight worked in XP (from Fusion).

Any comment would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Are you saying, by not connecting to the internet, your Windows was able to find and install a driver for iSight?

If The Drivers Where Installed Correctly Then Not Going Online For A Couple Off Days Sorted It For Me But It May Vary In A Case By Case Situation.

So First I'd Reinstall The Drivers For Everything Using The Leopard Disc And See If It Sorts Out Other Wise Leave It Offline For A Day Or Two.

Sorry, I am still not following you.

This is how I understand it. When Windows sees a new piece of hardware, it will search locally (hard drive) for a driver, and if connected to the network, also search the internet for one. In my case, both sources (locally or in the internet) did not provide a driver.

I guess I do not understand your logic of,

1) how Windows can "over-write" an existing driver without confirming with the user; if a new driver is found over the internet, it will ask you to confirm before installing it. In my case, no driver was ever found.

and 2) how leaving the machine offline for a couple of days will fix the problem. I mean, either it has the driver, or it doesn't. How can it magically sort itself out in a couple of days. Am I missing something here?

Have You Installed The Right Drivers To Begin With From The Leopard CD.

When You Boot Camp You Install Vista/XP Then After That You Install The Drivers Off The Leopard CD If You Haven't Installed The Drivers Off The Leopard CD Then That Is Why It Does Not Work.

I Did Say That It Might Vary Case By Case I Just Left The Windows Partition Offline For A Couple Of Days After Making Sure The Drivers Were Installed Correctly The First Time.

It Seems To Me That You Haven't Put The Leopard CD In (Or Done It Via Another Mac As The Air Doesn't Have A CD/DVD Drive). So If You Can Install The Correct Drivers That Are On The Leopard CD Then You Should Be Fine If It Doesn't Work I'm Sorry But I Can't Help You Anymore.

No, I don't think you have the answer I am looking for. But thanks anyway.

In my original post, I explained that I am actually using VMware Fusion (not boot camp). The drivers included in VMTools did not work for iSight. I tried extracted a driver from boot camp iSightInstaller.exe, but that didn't work either.

Having said that, your post did suggest that the boot camp driver for iSight did work in boot camp itself, just not in VMW Fusion. Could someone else confirm this?

I realized that boot camp is not fusion. But once you installed Windows, then it's just Windows that is looking for the driver, not the virtualization software. Hence what works for boot camp Windows should in theory works for fusion Windows.

In my original post, I am asking if anyone having problem with iSight in their boot camp windows. If they do, then I can isolate the problem to fusion, not a lack of driver in boot camp. That's all.
