I bought this off ebay and its running unlocked and jailbroken on version 2.0.2 (5C1) and modem firmware 05.11.07. Its defo unlocked as using my vodafone uk sim in it. I want to update my iPhone to a newer version 3.0 or 3.01 as I cant download any decent apps n want to have more fun with the phone. I'am new to all of this so go easy on me. I've downloaded all the software to upgrade to 3.0 but dont wana do it n lock phone out. Many thanks for your advise.

also just been told of person i bought it off he upgraded the iPhone to 3.1 n then downgraded back to 2.0.2, dont know if this makes any difference?

Two choices. Get a custom 3.1 ipsw OR hook to iTunes and let it go. You can't go to 3.0 or 3.01, you get an error. "This device is not eligible for this package."

what so if i use the custom 3.1 ipsw it will work even tho its running on baseband 05.11.07??

Are you sure you're on 5.11.07 AND using it on Vodafone? I only ask as everyone says there's no unlock for that version.

Did you check the baseband at Settings/General/About and go to modem at the bottom of the About screen? Does it say 5.11.07?

If so the only things I can think are that
1. Your phone is a factory unlocked model, or
2. It has a piggy back SIM in it as well as the iphone SIM, but I guess as you put your own SIM in it this isn't true

It's a mystery.

ive thought the phone must be factory unlocked but cant risk updating as dont wana lose the unlock, its defo not running on piggy back sim as used b4 n are shocking lol and is on uk voda.

it says 05.11.07 in modem firware, i cant understand how its running unlocked myself either, its prob why its running on such a old version, thats all i can think!

its doing my head in now as all i want is a unlocked iPhone running on a upto date version, may have to re-sell and buy another, grrr!

.........may have to re-sell and buy another, grrr!

Well, if you're going to do that, you may as well try an update first. If it's factory unlocked, iTunes will finish with a message "congratulations, your iPhone is now unlocked" or words to that effect. I honestly can't think of any other explanation for being live on Vodafone.

Anyone else have any ideas?????????????

If it is running an unofficial sim and the baseband is 5.11.xx, then it has to be factory unlocked.

You can upgrade, downgrade and JB the firmware to whatever version you want since it is a 3G.

One thing, since your phone is factory unlocked, if you use Pwnage tool to build a custom IPSW, be sure and uncheck the activate phone box.

I have read that if you leave this checked it interferes with the factory unlock.

thanks for your feedback, i'm starting to think it must be factory unlocked but the guy i bought it off says he cant be 100% as he bought it of ebay. think i'm just going to bite the bullet n update n c what it says.

done loads of reading up on this now on internet n the only way my iphone could be unlocked on 05.11.07 is being factory unlocked!!

is there anywhere i can find out if my iPhone is factory unlocked b4 i do the update???

If the phone says the baseband is 5.11.xx and it's running an un-official sim (not from an official iPhone carrier/distributor) then it HAS TO BE FACTORY UNLOCKED.

Use Google to do some reading so you will prove this to yourself.
