Help with new monitor

I am buying a new samsung 27 ih monitor from newegg for my office. It will replace my STD HP mon for my desktop lenovo PC.

I also have a MBA with a HDMI adapter.....BT keyboard and usb mouse.

I am not a power user....just web, ms office, never really multitask....I do no video or photo work.....

Would the screen look that much better using the mac in closed mode than the VGA lenovo?

The quality of the picture would look the same whether the MBA is in clamshell mode or dual-screen mode. I can't comment if it will look better or worse compared to your Lenovo, but ultimately, it should show very similar results as long as you are using the same monitor. It really depends on the quality of your monitor in the end.

I know I will be criticized for this, but, it depends.
Here's why:

HDMI cannot output signals higher than 1080, so if you have a 27" monitor thats 2560X1440, use VGA.

If the monitor is 1080 or lower use HDMI, it sends an uncompressed digital image and it will look better.

There is no way vga will look any good at 2560x1440. However, the monitor you are getting in all probability will be a 1080p monitor. In that case, use HDMI.

HDMI is a digital interconnect, whereas VGA is analog. That is the fundamental difference.

HDMI is better in most cases, but you cannot rule out the possibility that he will be getting a higher resolution monitor (meaning 1080+ in this case). HDMI won't be able to use the monitor to its full potential.

Yes, I do know that VGA is analog and thus will lose in most cases.

So why not just use DVI? Digital image quality with analog sound.
