Help with partition for bootcamp please.

I have a macbook (the ones released in the early 2008), and I want to install Windows. I already installed it when i had my old 160 GB hardrive, but now I got a 320 and installed it. Everything is fine except I had to partition the disk, mac runs fine, but when I opened bootcamp assistant it gave me this message:



Do I need to delete the partition thing in the disk utility.
So what do I do now?

Hi,

I had a similar problem a while back, and I later found out that the problem occurs because the hard drive is fragmented. I got a program off the internet that defragments my hard drive--once I have done this, bootcamp worked fine, and let me install XP. I know we always hear that mac doesn't need to be defragmented..but it apparently does sometimes...

Maybe you should try that.

If I am reading your post right it sounds like your current 320Gb internal drive was partitioned into more than one partition when you installed and initialized it. Is that correct-- that is, do you already have two partitions showing up on the desktop for your internal drive before you try to run the Bootcamp Assistant? If that is not the case then I have probably misinterpreted your post altogether.

If so, then it does need to be restored via Disk Utility to a single partition before you can use the Boot Camp Assistant as per the message you got.

Because it is a boot disk with multiple partitions, this will require reformatting and reinstalling the OS. A simple matter if you have an external drive available as you can clone the info on your internal drive's partitions onto a pair of partitions on the external, then format the internal and restore the info to the single partition. If you don't have an external drive that severely reduces your options when it comes to keeping the data on your internal drive.
