Help with Remote Desktop (VNC)

Right now I remote desktop to my home home computer and am using VNC. When I do so everyone at home can see on the Monitor what it is that I am doing. I was wondering is there a way to remote desktop to my home iMac where the Screen wont turn on when I do so. So that people cant watch what it is that I am doing?

I switched over from the PC with RDP and when I used to do it with windows, The screen would just show that I loged in but would not show anything but the login screen.

Is there a way to do this? Or is there a better way to do remote desktop with OSX?

OS X doesn't support multiple screen sessions, so what you see with VNC is always what is on the display. Depending on what you want to do, there are some alternatives:

1. Use ssh to establish a remote terminal session. You can also use ssh to transfer files.
2. If your remote system is a Mac, you could use a program like Sharetool or set up VPN that makes your remote system behave like it is on your home network.
3. You can run a Linux or Windows vitual machine on your home system and access that via VNC or RDC, respectively, and maintain privacy.

It's a command line program that gives you a command line on the remote system. So if what you wish to do can be done from the command line, it's the quickest and easiest way of access. The ssh server needs to be enabled in System Preferences => Sharing. You can also tunnel other services (such as VNC) over the ssh connection to make it secure.
