Help with Snow Leopard or install on replacement internal iMac hard drivr

Hi Guys and gals

The internal hard drive on my early 2009 iMac is being replaced but I have to reinstall Snow Leopard myself.

I did search in MRoogle and at Apple and cannot seem to find instructions on how to perform a clean Snow Leopard install on an iMac internal HD.

Can I do this? And if so how?

Or do you think I should try and install Leopard on the existing Hd in the iMac? I still have these discs but have to get the SL applications install disc out of my drive (it's stuck and the iMac won't boot past the blue screen).

Boot from the install by holding option key (alt) while booting and choosing the install disk with arrow keys and press enter. Simply follow the in-screen instructions.

My iMac does not get past the blue screen. The SL applications disc is still stuck inside the drive.

If I get the hard drive replaced with No OS install could I

1) be able to get that disc out of the optical drive

and.

2) Install Either Leopard or Snow Leopard ?

Or will I have to pay to get all of this done ( hard drive replace, stuck disc removed and OS reinstalled) ?

Did you try to force eject it? Did you try to boot from it? If you cannot boot from the DVD drive, then there might be something even more wrong, possibly with the DVD drive. What you mean by Application disk? Is it the iLife disc?

Hi Hellhammer

the machine completely died on me after trying blue screen loop fixes. Sorry if this was not clear in the first post. Since I do not have apple care on this machine and it is now dead (no start up screen at all completely black) I guess I will replace.

As far as the applications disc yes I think that was iLife.

now I have to decide which is the safer risk (if there is such a thing)
another refurb or a new 27" iMac.
