HELP with syncing issues

My wife and I each share one apple id between two ipads and two iphones. I now have all of my wife's contacts on my phone. We both turned on icloud but it seems to have shoved all her stuff on my phone.

When I turn off the contacts in icloud under the settings menu, I lose everything.

1. How do I just get my phone back to my old contacts without hers in my list?

2. Can we just use icloud with our own devices even though our house only share one appleID? If so, how?

I have noticed that my email drafts are not syncing between iOS and MacOS. Everything else is working, even syncing draft between iOS only.

Any clues?

Mail - Preferences - Accounts - Mailbox behaviors - Store draft messages on server.
