Help with upgrading

I accidentally synced my phone with my computer and now my beejive wont work since it says it requires an update. Im unlocked on 3.0.1 and i guess i wanted to know which would be the best way to update and unlock. Should i just go to 3.1.2 but i have heard that 3.1.2 has been giving a lot of people problems.
