Help!

Was going through the necessary motions to install bootcamp, half way through partitioning I was notified that some files could not be moved and that I should reformat the partition... However, I'm pretty sure the partition does not exist to format, or at least I cannot see it in disk utility and my HD has the same space left prior to bootcamp partition... ?

Well restarted and tried again, now it says:-

"This disk cannot be partitioned
because verification failed.

Use disk utility to repair"

(Bootcamp)

Which I have done:-

"Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
Determining correct file permissions.

Permissions repair complete
The privileges have been verified or repaired on the selected volume"

(Disk Utility)

I'm using a MacBook CoreDuo 2Ghz, 512 RAM, 60GB 5200RPM with latest Firmware, OSX 10.4.8 and bootcamp 1.1.2 (downloaded from Apples website yesderday).

I was attempting to partition using 7GB.

Have tried subsequently and with no success.

i'm not sure if this would solve your problem, but worth a try...
1. run bootcamp utility (or whatever its called) to restore any partition it made
2. restart computer w/ the restore disk in your drive, press C (yes, it'll look like you'll install OS, but you don't) and find disk utility, to repair permission on the entire harddrive
3. restart to computer, try bootcamp again.

i had problem the first time i install bootcamp that's partition related that i need to repair permission, that had to be done w/ the restore disk

Repairing Permission and repairing the drive are NOT the same.

Follow this and then try Bootcamp again.

So I need to verify my disk? What does this mean and is this dangerous?

Tried to Verify my internal disk and received this error:-

Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.

The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.

This is a fairly common problem, unfortunetly you are using disk utility in the wrong setting as it wont allow you to repair disk.

You need to insert the mac install disks that came with your mac. boot up holding down C with the disk in the dvd drive.

when instalation begins. Select a language and go to next.

instead of installing the software next, you simply choose utilites from the menu bar and then disk utility.

Now click REPAIR DISK and your drive will be repaired.

Exit and reboot.

Now run bootcamp again. You will be sorted.

Hi, that worked for the most part but on whilst partitioning via Bootcamp I received this message:-

"Your Disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.

Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format the disk as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."

What do you thinks the problem here? Do I need to totally reinstall OSX ?

PS I noted some experienced problems because of parallels, so I removed all files I found with Spotlight.

I'm still receiving the same error message.

what does your say? If it says apple partition system then for some reason your partition scheme is wrong and needs to be repartitioned, however this means re-installing everything

The correct partition system for bootcamp and intel macs is

Partition Scheme : GUID Partition Table



If your is the correct one, then your partiton table may have been damaged. Have you had somthing else installed at some point like Vista ?

Never installed anything like Vista before. Did install Parallels and have Crossover installed. Cant' really think of anything else?

Yeah they wouldnt normally harm your partition.

Installing say Vista Beta when some users inevertantly deleted partitions and stuff could obviously.

The easiest solution to save you a lot of re-install time is (assuming you have a spare external or internal HD)

is to download Carbon Copy Cloner and create an exact clone of your HD contents on another drive.

Then you can re-partition (which erases your hd contents) and once it's done use carbon copy cloner again to copy the contents of the backup HD onto your boot drive....


Otherwise your looking at a fresh install as the only option.
