You have to connect ALL aux power connector(s), otherwise, you may damage the card.

No need to flash it, unless you need the boot screen.

but will it work? I have another gpu that supposed to ship next week I just need this gpu to work until the other one will be mine

According to the GPU list a HD4870 PC version doesnt work.
So it should be flashed or a Mac Version.

If it's an unflashed PC card, it will not work without flashing and, obviously, connecting all power cables.

4870 will work when the driver kicks in since El Capitan.

And need both power cables for video output. I have even seen cards with a piezo buzzer what will scream when no power cable is in :-o

The 4870 has been long years my standard GPU when preparing Mac Pro 1.1 with El Capitan.

As the most of them can be easily flashed with the Apple 5770 Firmware.

But not all Versions. Unflashed they work when the driver has been loaded.

Afair with Lion, too. But I am not 100% sure. Memory fades...
