Some of my friends who did graphics design celebrated the 50th anniversary of Helvetica by making this helvetica movie.

I haven't seen that film and I missed the BBC program that was on a little while ago as well .

Will definitely jump on the chance to see it if I could.

I recently bought this, and was planning on watching it this weekend, funnily enough. I'm really looking forward to it.

That's odd – because I was in the year above them at the same uni! :D Small world, and all that. :)

another really great documentary about type is called "Farewell, Etaoin Shrdlu" and its a documentary about the last issue of the NY Times produced (july 2, 1978) using linotype machines and hot lead type. fascinating if you can find it.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think my grandpa's old print shop may have used a linotype like that. I know they used a lot of lead there. I'm no expert on the old machines so forgive me if I sound ignorant. I wish more than anything that my grandpa didn't quit printing and sell the building. I think I'll ask my dad tomorrow what kind of machines they used. I love this stuff. I can't wait to dive deeper into this typography class I'm in.

Oh, and I never realized how much Helvetica was used. Wow, it sure is EVERYWHERE!

As stated previously by others in this thread, it's a great documentary to watch if you're a visual communications designer.

I just got done watching it. I convinced my boss to make it a work outing. :) I found the movie to be very visually stimulating, and thought they did a great job balancing between a Helvetica love-fest, and critique of its ubiquitousness.

Great movie, a must see if you are in the graphic design world. I knew Helvetica was use everywhere but to see it in some of the montonages really made me think about it's over use.

Not okay if the bump is alright, but I figured this movie deserved it.

Just got done watching it and it's incredible how much I learned from it. I love how some praised Helvetica while others rebel against it and hate it.

Amazing movie, I highly recommend it to anyone starting in design.

I loved it, much more than I thought I would love a film about a font.

I went into it wondering how a film just about one typeface could be so interesting, but I was pleasantly surprised. What made it so great was the contrast between the designers. One who said that saying there are 12 good typefaces was being generous and then the David Carson's of the world. Great film.
