This post is just for fun, but hear me out! The price difference between the base MBA M1 and base MBP M1 is ~$300 USD depending on current deals. With that, you get the Touch Bar, which some love and some hate. However-the Touch Bar allows me to skip through YouTube ads, which I would need to give Youtube $11.99 USD/month for their premium ad-free service. I refuse to do this because I'm too cheap.

Assuming I keep this M1 MBP for 3 years, which is about the average number of years I keep one before upgrading, I would have paid $431.64 for Youtube Premium. By getting the MBP for only $300, I saved $131.64.

Justified.

Just an FYI you can use a VPN to sign up for YouTube Premium via India and pay way less. I use the student discount and pay about $US1.10 per month. Some people don’t like to bypass geo restrictions which is cool, but if you’re not one of them it might be worth a look so you can have best of both worlds.

Interesting. Do I have to VPN into an Indian server every time I want to watch Youtube? That would be a deal breaker for me.

No, only to subscribe to Premium and then never again. You’ll see your normal YT feed and recommendations. I think I’ve read if you use YT Music you’ll see Indian recommendations but I don’t use that so it’s never affected me.

Adguard blocks youtube ads and it's free.

There's also another app called Freetube. Blocks all ads and prevents youtube from tracking you while doing that.

I had no idea the Touch Bar could do that! That's very cool! I'm not sure it'd be the reason I'd use to justify 2-port 13" Pro over Air, but it's not like there aren't other reasons to do that.

To be honest, one of the reasons i wanted the MBA over the MBP is the lack of touch bar. I have a 2018 MBP that i am trading in. The touch bar is unreliable and gimmicky. I wanted to like it but it was more of a headache than it was worth. I really hope Apple considers dropping it in the future. It's very nice having a top row of physical buttons again that can't freeze

I'm actually intrigued by the touch bar. Granted, my only experience was a 30 min test drive but I kind of liked. I realize it is pretty divided on who likes it, but I have not heard about the unreliability. Are the freezes common?

in my experience over the last 2 years it gave me an issue, either freezing or not responding to touch inputs, at least once or twice a week. easily the most unreliable and un-apple piece of apple hardware i have ever used.

Touchbar never freezes or misbehaves for me, and I use it everyday. May depend on what else is running on the computer.
