Has anyone else noticed Apple’s increasing problem with categorizing songs under the wrong artist?
I can’t say I ever remember this being a problem until about a year or so ago, but it’s slowly increased to the point that at least twice a week now Apple is recommending to me a new song from some artist I like, which is clearly not from that artist, but it’s labeled and categorized in Music as if it is.
Today’s example, this song that is purportedly by trip hop pioneer Tricky:
Obviously not Tricky. And this is the third song I’ve run across over the past week that’s not under the correct artist. I do report them to Apple and usually after a few days it gets fixed.
So how is this happening? I’m clueless as to how a song gets submitted to Apple, but I assume it’s done by the record companies who, one assumes, want to make sure that their artists songs get submitted properly, for all sorts of reasons; and that Apple isn’t just taking songs from a bucket of submittals and carelessly filing them by artist name.
Which makes me wonder if this is a scam of some sort, where these songs are purposefully getting submitted under the wrong artist; but if so, how and why? What good does it do to submit a song under the wrong artist and give them the revenue? It doesn’t make sense. FWIW, it does seem like these songs are uniformly pretty bad, and often sound like they could be AI generated.
