Hey from New Zealand,

Have purchased new LG 32'' Class UltraFine™ 4K UHD LED Monitor , does it work with Mac Pro 2019 thunderbolt 3?

Any help would be great :)

Cheers

What GPU do you have? I’m on mobile so don’t see signatures. If they are like the 5K then should work fine on MPX modules .

Thanks, did that, always seems to talk about MacBook but no Mac Pro. It was one post l came across which said LG 32” won’t work with 2019 Mac Pro. Contacted LG and they couldn’t say , thought it should work but not certain!

My first thought on reading your first post was "surely should have investigated this before purchasing that monitor"?

Absolutely true, l am normally very particular. The LG is actually available a present from my lady but in my delight l did not properly go past cursory look at unboxing videos and then noticed the potential incompatibility.👎

If I was in that situation, I would try contacting the LG rep in your biggest city. I actually have a contact at a large electronics shopping center who I could ask, but as I am in Japan, that wouldn't help much. Try asking around, there should be someone in the know at the LG sales representative center.

Pleasure. Just for reassurance.

Yup, definitely looks perfect, and the price puts Apple to shame. l pretty much have certainty that both HDMI and Display Port will work, but if my 2019 Mac Pro will connect to the Thunderbolt 3 (which is my preference) has been difficult to get a definitive yes or no answer on. :)

Hi Lou,
Thanks for your encouraging reply👍 And you mean the direct connect to Thunderbolt?

Hello, also from NZ. When you say it puts Apple’s pricing to shame.. stop for a second and realise the PPI is the most important metric. An LG 4K 24” costs more than this monitor you’re getting for a reason. In the same way LG’s ultrafine 27” 5K monitors do, too. As long as you don’t have any other Apple monitors or laptops around, you probably won’t notice the fuzzy text.

Hi fellow Kiwi,

I take your point and very valid. Have been exclusively Apple for 40 years (still my Mac Plus and running LOL) Just saying, Apple has always been expensive but of course you get what you pay for.

Thanks for thoughts 👍

Hi all,

As the title of my post made clear I was unsure the LG display would work correctly.

The monitor arrived a few days ago with me still uncertain

I am happy to report that despite possibly losing some of my refund I took a chance and connected my Mac Pro 2019 to my new LG display, using the Thunderbolt 3 port. It worked straight away with no problems.

Many thanks for everybody's thoughts and advice

Cheers,
Dave :):)
