Hey, how 'bout an imac revamp? What? When?

Enough news about ipods and iphones.

When do we hear something new about imac's future?

Months ago there was talk about some compelling new features coming to the imac. Any updates, specifics, confirmations about that?

Any speed bumps planned? Design changes?

Anything concrete beyond wishful thinking re matte screens?

And, mostly, any idea WHEN something -- anything -- might be announced? Something more precise than "before the holidays" most welcome.

i'd be grateful for any news or even reasonable rumor.

We all know the same as you and everyone else. Nothing.

It would be nice to see however, but, if memory serves me right, Apple have updated the iMac in September and October before.

So there is a chance of a refresh/update, but theres been no news.

Intel just confirmed that their new line of mobile CPUs, Arrandale should start shipping in Q4 which means we may see an update before the end of this year

Is Apple (AAPL) about to unveil updated Macs?

Research firm Wedge Partners thinks so. They assert in a note today that the company will release both new iMacs and new MacBooks “in the next several weeks.”

Wedge sees a redesigned iMac witjh a “thinner, organic design, likely with smoothed or rounded edges. The MacBook redesign “is likely to be limited,” Wedge asserts.

Meanwhile, the firm also expects “new, lower price points to drive demand and create a meaningful competitive threat” to coming PCs based on Windows 7 as well as to the booming netbook segment. “We believe these new designs and price points will help Apple achieve a 3 million unit quarter for Macs in [calendar] Q4.”

AAPL today is up $1.67, or 1%, to $175.39.

I normally prefer my Apple products to be as thin as possible, but we really need a quad-core desktop chip. I would prefer a little thicker (and really, it wouldn't be that much). Apple will obviously choose thinner, so Arrandale will be a likely suspect since Intel seems to be releasing them in Q4.

The iphone 3g(S) is wider and thicker than the iPhone 2g so it may be slightly thicker with one of Apple's beveling tricks.

I don't know how true that upgrade news is, but the big chain stores here in New Zealand have had computer sales and deals over the last couple of weekends which unusually have also included their Apple machines. I thought it was just that they wanted to get rid of old stock ready for Snow Leopard pre-installed models, but maybe they're also getting ready for updated models too.

Intel may well releas their new chip in "Q4", but Apple may not release new models until "Q1" ... they do need time to actually receive the chips and put them into the computers (especially if "Q4" turns out to be mid-to-late December).

That's not true. While Arrandale is coming in Q4, Apple doesn't need time to put them in. Remember the latest Mac Pro update? Apple got them a month earlier than any other manufacturer.

I still doubt the "several weeks" rumor, it doesn't make any sense! October-November is my guess if Arrandale is on time
