hey Siri is not working at all. I’ve tried pretty much everything...hard reset, reset network settings, turn hey Siri off/on, recalibrate my hey Siri voice settings. Pretty much everything asides from a fresh install of iOS 11.x

I know my speaker works because I can hear myself in recorded videos and she hears me when I hold the home button and ask her something.

Can you help fix this issue?

What iPhone do you have?

I have an iPhone 8...I even went into accessibility and selected every setting I could find for the original Siri voice. Changed my language to United States English (I’m in Canada) and turned dictation on/off. Nothing fixes the problem.

At this point I would try a “reset all settings” because it seems that you’ve tried everything else besides that.

That won’t delete everything from the phone right? Any other ideas anyone?

No it just puts all settings back to factory default, so you’ll have to put them back to the way you had them. You will have to re-enter any saved WiFi password though.

Does “hey Siri” work if the phone is unlocked or not at all?

Hey Siri will not work no matter what state the phone is in. It’s weird I remember the day this started to happen. It didn’t work so I started to troubleshoot, turned off Bluetooth and tried again and it worked. But from that instance on it hasn’t worked whether BT is on or off, wifi is on or off.

I’ve tried enabling “type to Siri” in settings. Enable the apple dictionary, everything.

I’ll try the reset all settings option but doubt that’ll work either. That *itch just doesn’t want to talk to me. Haha.

Keep those suggestions rolling, I’ll try anything short of a full factory reset.

Lol well if resetting all settings doesn’t work, then a restore through iTunes followed by setting up as a new phone would be last resort before being deemed a hardware issue. Good luck!

Just tried resetting all settings, resetting network settings and it didn’t seem to help at all.

I’m about to take the plunge and restore from new and then do a over the air iCloud back up. Damn it, it’s going to take hours to get things back to normal. Is “hey Siri” even worth it?

It depends on what you use it for. The only time I use it is if my phone isn’t within reach to send someone a text message or ask a question, but 95% of the time, she responds with, “here I found this on the web, take a look,” or something like that and you have to pick up your phone anyway. If you’re holding your phone, “hey Siri” in my opinion is pointless.

So I did the erase all settings and restore from new. It didn’t help. I went into Apple and they ran a diagnostic. It found that my top speaker (the one you put your ear on during a call) wasn’t working. So they replaced the screen which has that speaker attached to it I guess and now hey Siri works fine again.

It’s weird cause if I held the home button she could hear me fine. I could hear people during phone calls. I could hear myself in videos I shot, but for some reason this is the reason why hey Siri wouldn’t work. Hope this helps someone in the future.

Maybe the actual speaker wasn’t really the issue, but the built in microphone right next to it. I believe that’s the microphone that listens for “hey Siri.” Either way, glad you got that *itch talking again

Thanks Matt, cheers!
