How reliable is hey Siri outdoors?

It hardly worked on version 2 which I returned and kept version 1

I’m on my second pair of the pros and it never works outdoors. I’ve got to be in a quiet environment like a library for it to work.

it works fine in the gym so for me that’s enough cause I don’t want to reach for my phone each time

It seems to work fine for me outdoors, while walking or hiking...At first, it seemed it was sort of hit or miss if it would, in general, work anywhere...But then I realized the key to getting it to work, was just to say "Hey Siri"...pause like a half second to a second and then ask my question. What threw me in the beginning and I think for some people is that once you ask, you wait, expecting some kind of response or tone, like what happens when you ask directly on the phone...which doesn't happen with Airpods. And then when you finally ask, it's already timed out...

I'm in NYC and it works outdoors for me. Maybe you are a low talker like in Seinfeld? Joking of course...

Walking in busy downtown San Francisco, I definitely have to speak considerably louder to get Siri to work as compared to indoors. And as mentioned above, the pause between hey Siri and the request is critical. I've gotten used to not having to pause with my iPhone XS, but the pause is basically required with the APP.

I'm still getting used to the "Hey Siri" on the Pro's since my OG one's didn't have it.

There's no Siri tone after you summon her (is this normal?), so sometimes I wait for it out of habit, only to hear Siri say "Hmm?" confirming she'd heard me & was awaiting my query.

Most of the time, she hears me though (i'd say 95%), & i've worn the Pro's mostly in a noisy work environment since purchase (with many equipment fans whirring in background).

I have zero pause between “Hey Siri” and my command/question even in a busy restaurant and have no issues with Siri recognizing commands.
