Is there a way to tell Siri or have a scene that turns on the specified appliance (outlet) for specified amount of time and then turns it off? Not an automation just turning it on whenever you decide and then automatically turning it off.

I can see this being useful in many scenarios. Does anyone know why this isn’t available even when you have a home hub?

Only for a min or two in the background. The “wait” function won’t work for much longer than that, apparently, unless the shortcuts app is the active app.

Yeah, at its simplest, it's really really simple. Turn on flashlight. wait x seconds. Turn off flashlight.

You can also make it so it asks you how long, you enter in how long, and have it wait what you enter.

Oops. I mixed my threads. You can have it run a HomeKit scene instead.
