I don’t use it as I have set Siri activation to long press on left ear bud.

No problems for me. I use it everyday walking to my car (next to a busy street) to text my wife that I’ve left the office and am on my way home.

Occasionally, I have some issues with “Hey Siri” and Announce with Siri upon initial connection. When this happens, I case the AirPods then reconnect them and it fixes the problem. Announce with Siri is usually inconsistent regardless. I’ve gotten into the habit of doing a quick test run with “Hey Siri” by asking for the time. If it works, it usually stays working. If not, I use the aforementioned troubleshooting method.

Using "Hey Siri" is so limited.. it could have been so much better.

Cannot send messages apart from iMessenger... 99% of the globe uses other applications for messages.
It cannot read out email, not even the Apple stock email client.
Announcement of messages is only for iMessenger, no other 3rd apps. It doesnt feel like Apple is stimulating 3rd apps to include this eventhough the several millions of Airpod users on this planet..

Hey Siri will become, or already is in the same category of usage like when there were no Pods, only just your phone; a feature that is there but mostly unused. Its a pitty as the Airpods makes it possible to leave the phone in people's pocket.

same issue here, have to yell it and then sometimes it activates. Using it on the street is impossible, it makes me feel incredibly stupid. it must be a microphone issue, same reason why people can’t hear me properly when I’m on a phone call. Replaced the airpods pro already and still not performing as it should.
I’m deep into the Apple ecosystem but I think this will be the last product I buy from them. Time to expand my horizons. The competition offers the same at lower prices. I don’t care anymore about who invented it first etc. Apple isn’t inventing it first anymore anyways.

I tried to call people with it in the beginning. Half of the time it called the wrong people, sometimes people i havent talked for months/years (but i still kept them in my contact list)... awkward moments...

Weird. It works 90% of the time for me. Only a few incorrect dials since November, although I usually dial by relationship ('make a FaceTime Audio call to my wife/son/etc,' 'call work' or whatever) ...

I think the source of my issue was the iPad - Hey Siri wasn’t working on that & neither was holding the sleep button, so I hard reset it, reconnected the Airpods & Hey Siri started working again...

Saying that though, it’s probably 80-90% successful in mildly noisy environments. Better in quiet ones.

I have PowerBeats Pro but I assume they handle handsfree Siri in similar ways. Works perfectly when I’m at home, but when I’m out walking/running, Siri goes deaf and I often have to raise my voice to that level where you look like a crazy person yelling at clouds.

Then there’s the car, where Siri just won’t stop listening for more, as if the engine sound keeps the gate open. If I say “Hey Siri, navigate to [X]” it just sits there like an idiot for over a minute waiting for me to finish. If I go oldskool and use the button there’s no such delay.

Yeah, that sounds like Siri.

There was an IOS update a while back that was meant to reduce the time Siri lingers, but it's not working that well these days...

?

I'd say at least 50% of the time, nothing happens.

Has it been as unreliable for others?
Yep same for me. I’d go as far to say it rarely works for me. And I’m on my second pair, same results. To be fair though, I work in NYC and am dealing with a lot of street noise.

In comparison, the microphone & Google Assistant on my Nest Mini, even with loud background noise of the TV etc. manages to comprehend what I say, any time of the day, perform the action in a timely manner (though Siri does too when she hears you) & turns itself off quickly*.

*Yet it's smart enough to answer a follow up question related to your prior question, if you're quick enough.

Siri needs to compete with that & has been failing for years...

Doesn't work for me either.
She listen, and I can see the text on the screen (eg "Hey Siri, call Steve"). But she never stops listening, and eventually nothing happens.

Siri has stopped working on my left APP, which is a replacement for a previously faulty one). The button no longer works, either.

My right APP, also a replacement unit, has the "thumping" issue, but handles Siri just fine. For now, anyway.

That, coupled with the now-mediocre ANC, makes this an extremely disappointing purchase.

Anyone else notice an improvement of "Hey Siri" on the APP this week? I think it's been much better for days now.

It's because it is quieter nowadays.
:)

Seriously though, I’m comparing performance in my work environment, which is filled with equipment fans whirring all around me. It works over 90% of the time now. ??
