Hello everyone, glad to join up here. Cant wait to be in Mac heaven like most of you.

Basically, I'd like to buy a Mac! I'm going to university this September and I'm doing a music technology degree, and I've been told that Mac's are the best for that kind of stuff. And also, they're just amazing, I want one and it's about time I had a change.I'm looking at the 1.83ghz MacBook, on the basis I'm on a budget.

My main concern right now is getting it MacBook through the Apple Education store (UK)

Right now I cant get onto the page where I'd be buying it through my institutions network, because I'm not there and on their network yet! I know you can go on one of the other optinos, but I'm pretty sure if you order it through a specific institution it's cheaper and VAT is included?

If anyone could actually tell me the price of a MacBook through an instituion in the UK, it'd be very much appreciated.

ANY other bits of advice from anyone's experience of using Mac's would also be very helpful

If you have an NUS card, you can register your card online at www.nusonline.co.uk and then once logged in, click on the link to the Apple Higher Ed store which will take you across to the Higher Education store, which is the same as the one you access through your institution's network. Alternatively, if you haven't yet got your NUS/Student Card yet, give apple a call on 0800 039 1010 and inform them that you'd like to buy a Mac from the Higher Education store and they'll order it for you

In answer to your question, the price of the 1.83GHz MacBook is £643.90 (inc. VAT).

There's also an offer which started today where you can get a £100 rebate when you buy a Mac and an iPod together, which means you can essentially get a 2GB iPod nano for £18 approx, or obviously £100 off any other iPod model.

Also if you live near a retail store and can show some proof of being enrolled in a university they will give you the discount in-store as well. At least in the US this is the policy, I'm sure it wouldn't be that much different in the UK.

how much is the student discount normally? around 15%?
