ok i have always thought that the hard drive took up so much room! so one day i thought that apple could get some sort of massive base laptop to store all the macbooks data.... or like with mobile me u get that 20GB thing well do the same thing and start out with 80GB and have 5, 10 or 15GB on the laptop for leapord (snow leapord will take up way less room so it would fit in the 5GB)... then i thought that you would need an internet connection. so since apple has a relation with AT&T they could install a 3G connection thing ( taking part of the room that the HDD took up. and the price of the laptop would go up a little or maybe add it to the AT&T bill for iphone users maybe. so ultimatly the laptop would be smaller or with the remaining space add a slightly larger battery. and make that 5-15GB HDD a SDD to up the preformance and other stuff.

PLEASE TELL ME IF SOMETHING SEEMS KINDA IMPOSSIBLE CRITISIZE or tell me if this is even possible:D:D:D:D

The problem with your theory is that cell and wifi transfer rates are vastly inferior to that of the internal connection to a mass storage device, so accessing files would be SLOW.

hard drives don't take up so much room, especially if you're talking about the 1.8" ones in the Macbook Air.

I think I know what you mean—a base HD and other components controlled by a smaller laptop via 3G.

I don't think it'll happen anytime soon. 3G is too slow and current hard drives aren't exactly that small.

Would I want this to happen? If the 3G issue is solved, then sure! Give me a 1 TB HD that I can access anytime.

Maybe this is closer to reality with iPods and iPhones. Just like .Mac / Mobile Me where data is synchronized between devices and Macs, an iPod could store a certain amount of media on its flash/HD, and other media could be accessed by connecting to iTunes via Wi-Fi (or something else) and drawing on the Mac's iTunes media library.
