Hi there I recently tried opening my DVD player draws only to find they would not open unless I took them out of the top of the machine. I do not know where they are jamming. do I need to pack the trays a bit higher?. do these pioneer DVDs always suffer this problem. I would like to hear how to get around this. Thanks very much Andy

I have seen this problem on a handful of Mac Pro and Power Mac G5 cases where the front metal doors don't operate smoothly any longer, either just due to age or due to some damage to the case that causes warping. This prevents the DVD drive trays from opening.

Are these DVD drives the originals that came with your Mac?

When you press the eject key on your keyboard (or Opt+Eject for the drive in the lower bay), do the drive trays try to open and get stuck against the front metal drive door? Or do the drives do nothing at all?

If you open the case and use your fingers to (gently) pull down the front metal drive doors, is there a lot of resistance, or does the door move smoothly, both down and then back up when you release it?

also the belts in the drives get weak. If you hold the dvd drive in your hand you can support it a bit with a paperclip in the emergency hole.

if it comes out and still reads ok replace the belt.
