Hi I just bought a used iphone from this guy:

The phone can turn on and use the applications like youtube and all (except for the phone calling ability) WITHOUT a sim card. Does that mean the phone has been activated?

He jailed breaked the phone with installer 3.0b or something like that.

However he doesn't seem to have the phone unlocked for non-at&t user.

The problem is I don't know if he had this phone 1.1.1 out of the box or 1.0.2 upgraded to 1.1.1 (I'm still waiting for his emails, thank god i checked the phone before buying it) so I can proceed in which method to use as virginizing the phone then unlock it.

I haven't buy a Sim card yet but will do so in a few hours.

Where do I go from here? My main objective is to get this phone unlocked for T-mobile.

We'll try not to yell at you, personally its a bit of a shock to get a well written post like yours from a new user in the iPhone forum .

I don't know about unlocking iPhone's personally, but in this case it sounds like he just installed extra applications but stuck with AT&T.

Yes. Probably unlocked too. Can't hurt to try a non-att SIM, and if it's locked, get to unlocking it!

I hope so too. If my phone is unlocked for T-mobile with its SIM card. Where do I go from there to get my phone rolling with their plans? Call them tell them my address?

Believe it or not this is my first cellphone. But I am a big fan of apples because of the durability and performances my ipods are.

So I gave no hesitation to buy this phone the only problem is how do i get it hacked and rolling without AT&T. I got pretty familiar with some functions already .

I notice some sites tell you to activate your youtube but mine is working fine, just needed to access my wifi network. I guess he activated youtube already.

It's confirmed. This iphone is not unlocked for T-mobile. I'm quite cautious approaching unlocking it when I don't know if its factory 1.0.2 or 1.1.1. I put in T-mobile sim card and it said the sim card is not allowed LOL.

Anybody have any idea how to know know if the iphone is 1.0.2 factory or 1.1.1?

I think I saw the way to possively differenciate what week it was manufactured (week 38 etc.) by serial#, somewhere on this forum. They are not definite, but they talk about 1.0.2 and 1.1.1 so it might help. I will post link if i find it, but try to look for it!

intalled it but got to 95% and it said :

"Detected FW Version: 0

Couldn't load sepack."

i put back in the t-mobile sim card. not working

The bars is appearing it doesn't say no sim with the word E next to it.

lol aww man.

Please help me look for the bin number to know the version of my phones thanks.

By the way the phone version right now is 1.1.1

I think I should do a factory refresh version.

Hey i found out my phone is 1.1.1 factory not 1.0.2 factory. my 4th and 5th digit is 42, i think it's made 42 weeks after iphone introduced.

Great news now i must learn how to get my phones working again .

How do i refresh my iphone to 1.1.1 factory again? I'll try to find the file.

So is your phone not working at the moment? To find out what FW version your phone is running on, go to Setting>General>About. What's your version and modem firmware? Also, if you see iTunes store icon on the home screen, you are running 1.1.1.

Yeah my iphone is all messed up right now the only thing functioning is the photos. I can't even listen to musics.

Yeah i see the Itunes store icon.

So what do i do now? just plug in itunes and let it restore? which version of itunes only restore 1.1.1 not 1.1.2

Since I heard 1.1.2 hacks they're still working on.

By the way how do you turn off your sim card pins? my t-mobile doesn't have any switch or anything. I saw some tutorials for unlocking telling me to turn my sin card pins off, how?

wow apples impressed me again. after a few restarts the iphone allowing me to do music, connected to wifi, youtube again. But the "No sim" isn't there just 5 low bars to left corner. I still need to get this thing unlocked.

Sounds like you got it working. To change your sim pin or turn it off, go to Settings>Phone>Sim pin
