Hidden Feature: Quick URL Bar Access

I just found this today and thought it was a really useful feature. I was reading TUAW on my iPhone and got to the bottom of their news feed and wanted to go to another site. I was beginning to scroll back up to the top to get to the URL entry field and accidentally hit the top bar, the one with AT&T and signal strength and the time and battery life and found myself at the top of the page staring right at the URL field. So amazingly simple and brilliant.

In short:

1. You're at the bottom (or anywhere) of a webpage on your iPhone and want to go to the URL field.
2. Tap the top bar with the time and battery life indicator.
3. Boom! You're at the URL entry field!

I hope this isn't a repeat post and that you find this useful!

sweet. i hadn't noticed that. thanks for pointing it out. now if my safari wouldn't crash so frequently.
 
Thanks! I got annoyed at this too, and found a different solution. Basically I double-tapped something on the page, then double-tapped again to zoom all the way back, and there the url bar is.

But your tip is much easier.

And love the Boom! :D

Are you sure you're closing some of the rogue multiple "tabs" safari is opening? I find that links from mail often open a new one and I end up with a bunch, taking up memory.

Also, try force quitting safari by opening it, and then holding the home button for a few seconds. Then reopen it.

I'm so smart

I wish I could pat myself on the back for also figuring this out on my own after just a few hours use, but all the credit has got to go to apple for being so intuitive. Let's hope they keep it up with all of the future software updates. And for godsakes please give us some way to manage our never ending to do lists. How can apple keep neglecting this with iCal (eg. Web publishing of calendars).

I'm fairly certain that there aren't multiple screens open when it crashes. safari and maps crash after using for a while and it frequently seems to be associated with a zooming action (or perhaps that's just coincidental). It is a bit of an annoyance but don't get me wrong ... still love the phone.

I also figured this out very quickly, must be an ellis thing.

As for the crashing of safari and maps - I had this happen a lot and I gave it a shutdown and have not had it happen since. I think after the first sync it needs that shutdown to work properly.

Pinching crashes maps and safari so much I'm afraid to do it anymore! You're not alone. I've found you need to wait until everything loads in Safari, and until everything is all sharp in maps. Zoom, wait. Zoom, wait. Don't zoom, zoom, zoom. Crash.

yes i agree. i've found it seems to crash more easily if i haven't allowed the initial page to load completely. frustrating.
