Have you ever stumbled upon relatively unpopular apps that absolutely blow your mind away? Let's face it, it's tough searching through iTunes for these hidden gems. So if you know of any, post them here.

Abca and Dark Nebula were two hidden gems that eventually became quite popular.

Movies Now and Groceries were utilitarian apps no one knew about.

Currently undiscovered ones are Destroid, Dwindle, Fox VS Duck, TimeFlow, ColorBind and The Font Game.

What are yours?

That's a great list.
I downloaded a couple of those I had not heard of before.

I already had Fox vs Duck. It's a great game but I also use it as a great background when I want to take a quick power nap. The start page offers the best hypnotic ambient music and is soothing. (Just dim the screen as there is no way to sleep the iPhone and have the game still running.)

Here's a list of the games I currently have, if you like just the few I recommended.

Frenzic
Ramp Champ
Minigore
Orba
Abca
Aqueduct
Blimp
Deep Green Chess
Dark Nebula
Meteor Blitz
Trivia Wars
Reflexion
Strategery
Type War

Thank you.
A couple of those I also have on my iPad (Minigore, for example).

Those all look good and interesting.
How do you stumble upon these gems?

Good question. There was this amazing app review website that had impeccable taste, but for the life of me, I cannot remember it's address. Makes me sad.

Interestingly, one of the guys from Kieffer Bros (Abca, Orba, Aqueduct) gave me these great recommendations. Also on occasion, I arduously search through iTunes, with generally good results.

It takes effort to find gems, though. The end results are always worth it.

I picked up two more off your list of hidden gems.
Sadly, type war is not in the iTunes app store (or, perhaps that is not what it is titled).

I think one of the hidden gems out there is pocket weather world. It's not THE most accurate weather app out there, but it pushes a temperature badge to the icon, which I love. Also, they updated it recently to include radar and such. Other than that, I have mostly well-known apps. I'm interested in what others have found!

Trism is a great little game.

No offense - but Trism is hardly a hidden gem. A great game - yes. But I believe the OP means to seek out Apps that probably have never gotten any notices or even reviews. And if they have - they aren't "popular."

Trism doesn't fall into that category in the slightest. It would be like saying that Pandora or the Kindle reader is a hidden gem... ;)

[app]Active Money Pro[/app] - I've tried most of the major full featured personal finance tracking apps out there, and this tops them all by a mile. I don't believe some of the people who wrote reviews in the U.S. iTunes store knew what they were doing (pretty easy to figure it out though, just go to the app developers FAQ on his site). The app continues to get a four and a half star average rating on the Japan iTunes, and with good reason.
