Hidden iTunes Purchases

If I hide past purchases on my itunes account, will they still auto download to my iTunes still? There is a bunch of stuff that I downloaded for free on the 12 days of xmas last year, but I no longer want them in my library.

Purchases only auto-download when you first download them so anything you've purchased in the past is already in iTunes.

Hiding them is only so they don't show up in your purchase history. If you want them out of your library, just delete them. You don't even need to hide them.

Hide them and delete them from your iTunes library and devices. You can always unhide something if you want to download it again.

Actually if you have a new device, purchases that aren't hidden could be downloaded, especially if you sync with iCloud instead of iTunes. It's best to hide what isn't wanted anymore. I just wish you could add a short comment to hidden files to remind you why you hid it. Although in most cases for me, it would be "app royally sucks".

Purchases would only be synced to a new device via iCloud if they were on the device when it was last backed up. Apple doesn't just push all purchases to a device when it's being restored from iCloud.

This makes no sense. If a device is new, how would the person have a backup of it?

If the device is new and they've never owned an iOS device, there wouldn't be any backups obviously. But you don't have to restore from that device's backup. You can restore an iPad from an iPhone backup or even from an older backup from a different device. Backups aren't tied to that specific device.
