Am I missing something or has the ability to remove the clock menu bar item been removed? I don't see the option to show or hide it in either the Date & Time panel, or the Dock & Menu Bar panel where the clock preferences are now mostly located.

I want to turn it off mainly because I use a third-party menu bar clock app called The Clock, since it provides a number of extra features that the Apple clock menu bar app doesn't. It doesn't make any sense to have two clocks in the menu bar, and it has always been possible to hide the default one. Hopefully I'm just missing where they stashed the option or the lack of choice is just because it's still in beta, although I'm skeptical because it seems like the only way to activate the widget tray is by clicking on the time (also an odd choice, but hey…).

Nope, you're not missing anything. Now that the time/date menubar is used to show the widget/notification panel, it can't be fully removed.

The best you can do is to minimize it to only a small analog clock so it doesn't take up as much room on the menubar.

Thanks! That's really a shame, considering it interferes with numerous third-party apps and I don't even use the widgets or notifications in the first place (nor is using the clock to open a widget/notification tray particularly intuitive). Guess I'll send feedback, for whatever little that might be worth!

Yeah, this new "feature" really ticks me off. But I suspect a utility like Onyx will eventually give us the ability to "hide" the built-in clock.
