Can someone help me out here, My imac will make this high pitch squeel sound when i hit shut down and it doesn't go away. I usually hit sleep when its not it use/overnight partly bc of the noise.

It sounds like the hard drive making the noise. Its coming from the upper left side when youre facing the LCD screen. I am a little baffeled bc it doesn't make the noise if the computer is being used or in "sleep" mode, but when i "shut down" the noise starts up and doesn't go away..

is this just the harddrive trying to cool itself or something else? It's not going to kill me to not get it repaired bc i can always hit the surge protector off if i need to shut down the iMac too, but I just want to be safe and figure out what I should do.

Any suggestions? thanks

I'd strongly recommend that you bring this in for repair, assuming you're still under warranty.

It's not a good thing, and it might indicate deeper issues which otherwise might show up after the warranty expires.

i'm not sure if it makes a difference or not , but its not a very loud noise, its faint but it is still a high pitch squeel. You would have to put your ear fairly close to the computer to hear it.
