I returned a 2009-model 2.8GHz i7 27" iMac due to high pitched electronic squeal coming from the LED Inverter board. It was quite loud and very annoying. I got a full refund for the unit and purchased a Mac Pro instead. I'm thinking about purchasing a 2010 iMac for work. Is this an issue on any of the 2010 models, does anybody know, or has this issue been eliminated completely? Thanks!

Yes, it's still an issue as well as yellow tinting.

Exchanged 3 iMacs over the past 2 days and all had the electrical noise when brightness was set at 50% as well as yellowing. If you can wait 4-6 months for a new revision or just not buy an iMac ever again, do that.

My 27 inch iMac (2010) doesn't have any issues with the display (dead pixels, noise or yellow tint). The fans and hard drive are nearly silent, which is nice in a quiet home office.

What I do have is an optical drive that likes to hang on to discs every once in a while ... probably have to take it in and get it fixed.

Overall I am still very happy with my iMac.

The iMac 27" has been known for these problems. Although they are becoming less and less common these days. The Mid 2010 iMacs barely have these problems.

I purchased a 27" iMac i7 mid 2010 model brand spanking new from the online Apple Store and it's running deadsilent with the most astonishing screen I've ever seen.

So, in some rare occasions these problems do show I guess, but not in largle number anymore. Of course, when someone has this problem, he'll post it on the forum(s). Thus, it may look that they are still there in large numbers, but that's just because most happy customers are happy in silence, I shall say.:D

Every product has it's flaws and every product is being critizied. Apple products are known for attracting much more attention than other brands, so flaws are always overhyped.

Overall I got a perfectly good working machine, and I've always had this with Apple products in particular. Just do it, and experience it for yourself. :)

So, it's safe to buy and you will absolutely enjoy it.

I just got a 21.5" refurb i3. Has this noise... I find it very annoying. If I hold my head a certain angle, I can't hear it... but that's not comfortable for very long, and hardly a solution.

Is there a fix for this? I want to get my display replaced as well (yellowing, bad blacks), so if I can do that I'd like this noise fixed as well.
