I recently noticed my powerbook is making a high pitched whine. It seems to be coming from the speakers and the volume control has no effect. If I scroll with the track pad or if the hard drive is accessed it seems to stop briefly. If I go into the Energy Saver Preference and set the processor to reduced the whine stops. Automatic and Highest both produce the whine.

I do not know what it could be since my powerbook g4 was recently in for service and was repaired by apple. It recently updated two drivers so (Yamaha Keyboard and Griffin Scroll Wheel Thing) i'll see if it is that.

Does any one have any ideas? Thanks!

i also have this problem, only with my MBP, what i do to fix it it: do the following:

1 download Mirror widget from Apple.com
2 install it
3 open it
4 close it
5 put notebook to sleep,
6 Wake it up
7 enjoy a high-pitched noiseless computer

What exactly does the mirror widget do? Is this even an official solution?

I doubt it. Its weird though, its not happening right now, but this morning it was giving me a headache. with my luck id bring it in and it would be fine. hopefully it will get worse so i can take it in, or it will just get better so i dont have to worry about it anymore

Yah like it goes and comes ... it only started recently. My Powerbook was just sent in for repairs too. Ugh.
