MP 6,1 High Refresh Rate for MP6,1?

Hello ,

would like to ask the Community what is probable maximum refresh rate possible for the internal GPU (D300 , D500, D700) on the Mac Pro 2013 (late),

like 2560x1600 120 Hz
or 2540x1440 144 Hz

or 3840x2160 75 Hz, 90Hz, 120 Hz?


are there any big limitations in that regard?


or would a newer MacMini 2018 with UHD 630 be a bitter option for newer monitors?

I think it depends on how you are connecting to the display, e.g. HDMI, DisplayPort, etc. For example, I believe that model MP only support HDMI 1.4 which is 4K @ 30Hz

The internal HDMI only support 4K at 30 Hz, With the right Mini DisplayPort to HDMI I got 4K at 60 Hz. If a higher frequency is possible I don’t know, because my Eizo 4K only support up to 60 Hz.

The 6,1 should has DP 1.2 output (forget about the HDMI 1.4 if you want high refresh rate).

And that should able to do 1440P @144Hz (8bit), or 120Hz (10bit). For 2160P, you can go 75Hz (8bit), but limited to 60Hz (10bit). Impossible to go higher.

Of course, the monitor, the cable, the OS, etc need to be compatible as well. But if we only consider DP 1.2's ability, it's totally possible.
