Multiple diagnostic programs all indicate a consistency error on my boot volume, which they are unable to fix. Will I need to do a clean install? File structures seem OK, directory structures have this problem. I need some way to fix it without losing my files or having to reconstruct things. Would a time machine restore be likely to help without reformatting or at least fixing the consistency error? I should mention that I have noticed no problems while using the system.
Tech Tool Pro gives an fsroot tree error with result 9 and now 8. It changed after testing a few times. Drive Genius also found an fsroot tree error. Disk Utility yielded the following salient results:

The volume /dev/rdisk4s1 could not be verified completely.

Restoring the original state found as mounted.
