Hi all,

I am new to all of this.

Mac Pro 5,1 3.33 Hexa 2010
MSI RX 580
High Sierra
Display Port works beautifully.

Mojave
No more signal on Display Port
And The computer thinks the 4k monitor is 1080p… at least that is the resolution it chooses when I select the non-scaled option (native monitor? Something like that.)

Any thoughts?

Andrew

Boot Mojave via OpenCore?

That resolution most likely is correct. What you are seeing is the UI resolution, not the rendering resolution. For 4K monitor, that default to use 1080P in HiDPI, which means render right at 4K.

Of course, you can change that to native 4K, or 1440P HiDPI etc. That's your personal preference.

Thank you. I will need to discover what OpenCore is. I had never heard of it until three days ago. As I said… very new to this. Are there any easy to follow instructions for this process?

Another straight forward question.

Did you upgrade from HS to Mojave by yourself? How you do that?

In addition to knowing what process you used to upgrade to Mojave, I'm also curious about the exact version of Mojave you are running and thus if your system is fully up to date?

I did it myself. I followed the instructions given here.

El Capitan to High Sierra - with my original card, first a firmware update that the installer instigated, then the OS upgrade. All done on a new SSD that I formatted with the Journaled thing-a-ma-gigue.

High Sierra to Mojave - with the new card (some strange MSI RX 580), I did a second Firmware instigated by the installer, then the OS installation.

Both installers came from the Apple Store.

One thing that DID happen which was silly of me… I turned off my screen during the second install. It didn’t come back on so I couldn’t complete the install with my eyes. I waited a very long time to make sure it was complete then force shut down the computer and restarted it. When I did, I found the installer complete and it was asking me about whether or not to send the analytics - a common question after a new OS upgrade.

So, you saw that Mojave analytics screen via HDMI connection? (You said DP doesn't work)

Exactly. The window where Mac asks you if you want to send your analytics to them. Following that, I had my computer screen as normal through HDMI. The issue is that I want 4K 60 Hz full HDR.

Connect both HDMI and DP cable from the RX580 to the same monitor. And you can only use HDMI signal on the monitor side, but just keep the DP cable connected.

Check what's inside system info -> graphics page.

You better do that in both HS and Mojave. And post the result here, so that we can see the difference.

My profound apologies to all that were helping. I hadn't set up the power supply correctly. With the proper dual 6-pin to 8-pin properly set up, all is smooth sailing via the Display Port... FOR NOW!!!
